The Puritans

Behind this prudish title lies an explosive show in which the sweet and terrifying obscenity of incest and sexual abuse collide with the exhibition of very sexually active bodies. Eight boys and one girl read or act out a series of scenes, a veritable bouquet of action that splashes across the stage. David Noir, the young writer, actor and director of Les Puritains, says he wanted to be closer to the rock scene. For the crudity of the words and the ostentation with which the act of love is laid bare on stage, the whole thing gives off a distinct perfume of fleurs du mal stripped of all romanticism.
