JaZon pilot 1 is the second solo performance that I made. It opens the next episodes of The Fleece. It is a simple and free form, without scenery or video projection, which was improvised on the day, from a prepared staging canvas. I did this exercise following the proposal of my friend Dick Turner, composer and performer, who invited me to complete his musical program with a first part of my choice. I used what was at my disposal, microphone, sound system and minimal lighting, without adding anything to it, except for a little make-up and vinyl trousers, in order to concentrate on my relationship with the audience present, which was standing at the back of this cellar of the Montmartre café overlooking the dustbin room. Dick had titled this evening of December 22, 2006 "Cabaret de l'Apocalypse Special Christmas", as he called all his concerts at the time, except for this special mention. It was very exciting to have a moment on stage, as small as it was, offered in this way, which I was not at the origin, as opposed to the planned heaviness of the theatre shows. I was able to test the new texts of The FleeceI also performed one or two songs that I had rehearsed beforehand with Valérie Brancq, but who couldn't be there tonight, and two musical soundtracks that I had just finished as soundtracks for some of the texts. I also gave a cover of "John" from the Puritans. My preparation was done a few days before in the small black room of the Espace Jemmapes that I was going to haunt the following year on the last Friday of each month to create the test episodes of The Fleece Sleeps. Live performance is inextricably linked to the physical space in which it unfolds, and is sometimes just waiting for a simple opportunity to materialise in its primitive form; so thanks to Dick for giving the green light to the first steps of my JaZon.
